Last year I mentioned how the Samsung Galaxy S4 looked similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and how it seemed like they’re taking a less innovative strategy, the whole point of Android is to have an open source with variety. If you’re going to buy the same phone every year except with improved specs you might as well get an iPhone.
Again, Samsung this year announced the Samsung Galaxy S5 with features that might sound good but practically rarely if not ever used. The specs barely jump in comparison to its predecessor the Galaxy S4.
- Same resolution
- Same amount of RAM (2 GB)
- 0.1 inch larger
- Same front camera, better back camera
- Faster processor
- Finger scanner feature, I wonder who inspired that feature
I am less inclined every year to find out what Samsung’s next big thing is because it’s more like the next okay thing. I think they’re now trying to focus elsewhere (watches maybe?) and have diverted their attention and this was the result. It feels Samsung aren’t competing but rather playing the catching-up with Apple features game.
I bought the LG G2 because it bought new aspects to the table, the design was completely renovated with all the buttons at the back. The knock-on feature came in handy and the on-screen feature is something that made things a lot more convenient.
