I’ve been thinking about this for a few days. Leaked images of Whatsapp’s new update show the feature of calling people right from the app. This will hit telecoms badly, it will cost them millions in revenue. The only reason Skype is officially banned in Kuwait (though used everywhere) is because it uses VOIP technology to call rather than your normal telecom phone call method.
Telecoms like Whatsapp because when you call; it calls through the normal method which telecomes monazite from, but when the app starts using the internet to call, telecoms barely make any money of it. Since Whatsapp is all over Kuwait with no exceptions I assume more people will be using Whatsapp to make a call rather than the normal calling method.
To conclude, even if telecoms push hard to get it banned and it does get banned, I doubt anyone is going to stop using it unless they feel threatened.
